Ingredients
Scale
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 cups heavy cream
4 ounces semisweet chocolate
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla, then gradually add flour and milk, mixing until smooth.
Pour the batter into a greased cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Let the cake cool before slicing it in half horizontally.
Prepare the custard by whisking together cornstarch, sugar, and milk in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
Remove from heat and mix in vanilla extract. Allow to cool.
For the ganache, heat cream and pour it over chopped chocolate, stirring until smooth.
Assemble the cake by spreading custard between the layers and topping with ganache.
Notes
Allow the cake to chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
For added flavor, consider infusing the custard with a dash of coffee.
