  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup tzatziki sauce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • ¼ red onion, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup lettuce, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground lamb, beef, onion, garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and egg. Mix well until combined.
  3. Form the meat mixture into a loaf and place it on a baking sheet.
  4. Drizzle olive oil over the meatloaf.
  5. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until cooked through.
  6. Let the gyro meat rest for 10 minutes, then slice thinly.
  7. Warm the pita breads in the oven.
  8. Assemble the gyros by spreading tzatziki on the pita, adding sliced gyro meat, tomato, onion, and lettuce.
  9. Fold and enjoy!
